Rosemary Seeds (Organic)
Rosemary, a fragrant and versatile herb, traces its origins back to the Mediterranean region, particularly the shores of Greece and Italy. Renowned for its culinary uses and aromatic foliage, this perennial herb holds a prominent place in various cultural traditions and cuisines.
Within the Rosemary family, there aren't distinct subspecies, but various cultivars exist, each with unique growth habits and leaf characteristics. The plant itself presents as an evergreen shrub with needle-like, aromatic leaves that are dark green on top and silver-white underneath, lending it an attractive, dual-toned aesthetic. Rosemary also produces tiny, inconspicuous blue flowers that add to its visual appeal.
The taste of Rosemary is characterized by a strong, pine-like aroma and a slightly bitter, woody flavor with hints of citrus and eucalyptus. Its robust taste pairs well with a wide range of savory dishes, from roasted meats and vegetables to bread and soups.
When planting from seed, Rosemary requires well-draining, sandy soil with good moisture retention. Sow seeds indoors in early spring or late summer, ensuring adequate warmth for germination. Transplant seedlings into larger containers or garden beds once they've established sturdy roots. Rosemary thrives in full sun and warmer climates but can tolerate cooler temperatures if protected from harsh winter conditions.
Regular pruning helps maintain its shape and promotes bushier growth. With its adaptability to various climates and its multiple culinary and ornamental uses, Rosemary remains a beloved herb among gardeners and cooks alike.
