Venus Flytrap Sawtooth Red Piranha Plant (Dionaea muscipula) is a carnivorous plant formed from the cross of Sawtooth and Red Piranha varieties. Its traps have nectar-coated inner walls to attract insects, and mid-trap trichomes trigger the closing response when touched. For a successful catch, the insect must brush a trichome more than once or touch two spikes within a few seconds. The trap edges feature hair-like cilia that interlock when closed to prevent escape. After capture, enzymes digest the prey over up to ten days, leaving only the exoskeleton.
It ships as a young plant in a 2.5" pot, about 2-3" across, and you’ll receive a SIMILAR plant to the pictures (not the exact plant). The Venus flytrap is dormant during winter (Oct–Feb/Mar), so plants shipped during that period may be smaller but will rebound and grow larger in spring and summer. Care instructions are included, and shipments are sent via First Class mail.
