Our garden soil is a mix of 50% composted plant / tree matter & 50% composted horse manure / stall sweepings. This soil is professionally produced, temperature checked, tested and screened to produce the highest quality soil. Garden soil is used to start new raised garden beds, gardens on the ground or for landscaping beds and laying sod.
The soil is delivered in a large tri-axle dump truck. Generally, soil is dumped out front, but we can accommodate any area you request and that the driver decides is feasible. The truck needs at least 10 feet wide to fit between any objects. The driver can not dump under trees or overhangs that may obstruct the height of the dump truck. The truck should not cross the edge of cement driveways, sidewalks or water boxes, etc., keep this in mind as you plan your delivery spot.
The components of garden soil:
Plant component: The plant source materials are trees, logs, brush, chips, leaves, plants and stumps. The collected plant materials are sorted and sent through a grinder as needed to speed the composting process of the piles. Plant material is piled in rows at various stages; meaning that we don't add new inputs to old piles.
Manure component: The main manure source material is horse manure and stall bedding. Only certain types of animal manure are acceptable and there are license requirements to collect it. The manure compost pile is always kept separate until mixing is required. The average age of the composted manure used in garden soil is about 3 years.
Process: All of the composting piles are temperature checked daily and moved down the line until they're ready for a final screening. Any required mixing of different types of compost soil starts after the final screening process. Screening means we pass the product through a 1/2 screen to filter out and pieces that may be bigger than the screen openings. The finished screened compost products and mixed products are moved to their respective final pile and sold. These processes are a continuous aspect of making premium garden soil.
