Siembra: Siembre directamente en primavera, presionando las semillas contra la superficie del suelo; estas necesitan luz para germinar. Mantenga la tierra húmeda hasta la germinación, que suele ocurrir en un plazo de 10 a 14 días. Para empezar en interiores, coloque varias semillas juntas en macetas de turba individuales; mantenga la tierra húmeda y en un lugar con luz solar indirecta.
Cultivo: Esta planta necesita humedad constante, especialmente al establecerse. Tolera suelos muy húmedos y con buen drenaje, pero tiende a perder su follaje en condiciones de sequía. Se adapta bien a suelos arcillosos, así como a zonas poco profundas o rocosas. Para una floración más prolongada, elimine las flores marchitas. En buenas condiciones, esta planta se propaga rápidamente por chupones, pero se vuelve bastante maleza si se deja crecer sola; elimine los chupones para evitarlo. Reduzca la altura de la planta a 20-25 cm durante el letargo invernal o a principios de la primavera.
Cosecha: Para flores frescas, corte tallos largos de flores recién abiertas y colóquelos en agua inmediatamente; retire las hojas que se hundan. También son excelentes flores secas; haga un manojo de tallos y cuélguelos boca abajo en un lugar cálido, oscuro y bien ventilado hasta que se sequen.
