Yerba Mate tree is an evergreen in the Holly family (Aquifoliaceae), native to the steamy subtropics of South America. Indigenous Paraguayans brewed dried leaves into a caffeinated beverage rich in antioxidants and micronutrients. Today it is popular worldwide as an alternative to coffee that boosts energy, burns fat, and reduces cholesterol.
Fragrant white flowers bloom in late fall to early winter and develop into bright red ornamental berries in spring. The thick, leathery leaves can be harvested and dried any time of the year when foliage has become full on the tree. Yerba Mate grows up to 50 feet outdoors and can be grown as a container plant indoors or outdoors. It grows in full sun to partial shade in rich, loamy, well-draining soil that never dries out, and it prefers warm, humid conditions. It is hardy in USDA zones 8 to 11.

My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping. So glad she arrived looking as beautiful as i was hoping. Also had a surprise red arrow syngonium cutting that’s beautiful. Also customer service was amazing. Will definitely order from them again.
