The Yaupon Holly plant (Ilex vomitoria) is an evergreen native shrub or small tree found naturally along Florida’s coasts, pine flatwoods, and hammocks. It features dense, glossy foliage and bright red berries, and its leaves contain natural caffeine—the only plant native to North America with this property. Yaupon has nourished and energized people in the Southeast for centuries.
Small white spring flowers attract pollinators, and its berries feed wildlife through winter. Indigenous peoples—including the Timucua, Creek, and Cherokee—brewed Yaupon leaves into a caffeinated tea called black drink for focus and ceremonial use. Today, Yaupon is described as a sustainable native tea plant with a smooth flavor similar to yerba mate—naturally low in bitterness and rich in antioxidants. It is hardy, drought-tolerant, and adaptable to sandy coastal soils, making it suitable as a native hedge, specimen tree, or edible landscape shrub.

My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping. So glad she arrived looking as beautiful as i was hoping. Also had a surprise red arrow syngonium cutting that’s beautiful. Also customer service was amazing. Will definitely order from them again. Hoghly recommend this shop.
