Vietnamese Coriander Plant (Persicaria odorata), also known as Rau Răm, is a perennial herb native to Southeast Asia. It has narrow lance-shaped leaves with dark green color and purple markings, and a bold, peppery flavor with a citrusy note. The plant grows as a low, creeping perennial, about 12-24 inches tall and spreading outward, making it suitable as ground cover or a container plant and an ornamental addition to herb gardens.
It thrives in warm, moist environments and can be harvested year-round in tropical and subtropical climates. In cooking, it’s used fresh in Southeast Asian dishes such as salads (gỏi), Laksa, and as a garnish for grilled meats, fish, and spring rolls; it can substitute cilantro in warm climates. My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping.
