Venus flytrap, Dionaea muscipula 'Long Red Fingers', is a live plant shipped in a 2.5" pot. Its traps attract insects with nectar on the inner walls; a trigger hair in the trap's center prompts closure when touched, and the cilia along the edges interlock to prevent escape. After capture, digestive enzymes break down the prey, leaving only the exoskeleton, a process that can take up to ten days.
During winter (Oct–Feb/Mar), Venus flytraps go dormant and may be smaller when shipped, then rebound in spring and summer. You'll receive a SIMILAR plant to the one in the pictures (not the same plant). The plant ships via First class mail in a 2.5" pot and is a young plant about 1.5–2" across. Care instructions are included.
