Venus flytrap plant 'FTS Flaming Lips' is a live Dionaea muscipula offered in a 2.5" pot, with young plants about 2–3" in diameter. The trap's inner walls are coated with nectar to attract insects, and the central trichomes trigger its closing mechanism. For the trap to close, an insect typically must touch one trichome multiple times or two different spikes within a few seconds. The edges of the trap have interlocking cilia that help prevent escape, and once closed, enzymes digest the prey for up to ten days. Some plants may be greener than others, and the species is dormant during winter (Oct–Feb/Mar); shipping during this period may yield smaller plants that recover in spring and summer.
Shipped as a live plant with care instructions, the plant is intended for full sun. Potting medium is peat & perlite or pure peat. Water should be provided via the tray method using low-mineral water (50 PPM or less); humidity should be 50–85%; and temperature should range from 65–80°F in spring and summer to 35–55°F in colder months. Feeding can be fish food or bugs every 3–4 weeks. Mature size depends on care, and dormancy occurs in winter with reduced water. Ships by First class mail.
