Antique Shahsavan Jajim rug, hand-knotted and measuring 6’4” x 6’8”, dates to the 1900s. Made in Azerbaijan (USSR), this hand-made Jajim is a traditional flat-woven kilim woven on a horizontal loom. It features energising and contrasting colors achieved with natural dyes. The Shahsavan design is distinguished by vertical stripe patterns and reflects the Shahsavan Turkic culture of Azerbaijan and parts of Iran.
Condition is described as great for age, with photos reflecting true condition. This rug is hand-knotted and has been professionally washed and treated; each piece is inspected before leaving the warehouse. Historically, Jajim textiles were woven for speed and practicality on horizontal looms and used in daily life or as horse covers; thinner variants served decoration and were prized as luxury items in Iran for centuries. My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping. So glad she arrived looking as beautiful as i was hoping. Also had a surprise red arrow syngonium cutting that’s beautiful. Also customer service was amazing. Will definitely order from them again.
