Tulbaghia Violacea, commonly called Society Garlic, grows from seeds into a bushy herb with long, slender leaves and clumping lavender flowers. It can be grown as a decorative houseplant and is used as a kitchen herb for its garlicky flavor; it can also be used like chives in some preparations. The seeds bring a purple hue to gardens and release a garlic scent as they bloom.

Germination takes 14-28 days at 70F–85F with a depth of 1/8 inch. Sow 2–3 seeds per nursery pot, using a 2–4 inch nursery pot to start (no terra cotta for germination). Seed prep is none; recommended germination methods include greenhouse or paper towel. Time to maturity is 6 months to 1 year, and more light yields more flowers. Seeds are for the 2026 growing season and prefer a well-draining coconut coir/peat-based potting mix with a pH of 5.6–7.5.
