Pinguicula "Sumidero I" is a perennial heterophyllous butterwort that produces distinct summer and winter leaves. In winter it grows non-carnivorous leaves, while spring and summer bring carnivorous leaves. The plant is green and bears a purple flower, and it comes from Sumidero Canyon National Park in Chiapas, Mexico. The photos are representative, and you will receive a similar plant; they are not flowering at the moment, and some plants may appear greener or change color under intense lighting. It grows about 1" in diameter and ships bare root in a plastic container. We ship on Mondays and Wednesdays to avoid weekend cutoff.
It is strongly recommended to use a heating pack during winter to protect the plant during transit; one heating pack per order is enough. Light needs are a sunny windowsill, T5, or LED lights. The potting medium is Mexican Pinguicula soil mix. Water should keep the soil moist, and humidity should stay between 50–80%. Temperature tolerance is 55–85°F. Mature plant size ranges from 2–3" depending on care, and there is no dormancy, though the plant may enter a succulent state during winter depending on temperatures. Feeding occurs every 3–4 weeks with fish food or bugs.
