Pinguicula gigantea is a perennial homophyllous carnivorous plant native to Mexico. Its flowers are typically purple, with an occasional light blue bloom. The epithet gigantea comes from the Latin giganteaus (giant). The plants shown are representative; you will receive a similar specimen about 1 inch in diameter. Plants are shipped bare root in a plastic container to protect them, and if you need soil you can select the Bare-root + soil option. We ship plants Monday and Wednesday to avoid weekend cutoff. A heating pack is strongly recommended during winter to protect the plant in transit; one heating pack per order is sufficient.
The plant has been grown under LED lights with daytime temperatures around 75–80°F and nighttime temperatures around 55–70°F. For growing, place it on a sunny windowsill or under T5 or LED lights. Use Mexican Pinguicula mix as the potting medium and keep the soil moist. Maintain humidity between 50% and 80% and keep the temperature between 55°F and 85°F. Mature plants reach 4–6 inches in size with proper care; the plant may not have a defined dormancy, but can go into a succulent state in winter depending on temperatures.
