Phytoseiulus Persimilis Control For Spider Mites
Phytoseiulus persimilis is a predatory mite that devours two-spotted spider mites and other spider mites. It is most effective when released at the first sign of infestation. For preventative releases, use 1–3 per square foot. For example, treating 5,000 sq ft at 2 per ft2 would require 2,500 individuals.
Persimilis reproduce quickly, so repeated introductions are often needed until all infested sites are treated. With active infestations, release weekly or every other week; for preventative measures, every other week or monthly. Ideally use as soon as they arrive. If storing, keep up to 2 days at 42–50 °F (6–10 °C) and store the bottle horizontally; apply at the trunk or base of plants, since Persimilis moves upward. If infestation is high, use insecticidal soap to reduce numbers before releasing Persimilis. Humidity matters: at RH above 60%, Feltiella acarisuga can be released alongside Persimilis; at RH below 60%, Stethorus punctillum can be released alongside Persimilis.
