These hardy perennials are easy to grow and maintain, and the seeds are carefully selected for a high germination rate to help you achieve a colorful display in your garden or in cut flower arrangements.
Sowing options include direct sow in spring—press the seeds into the soil surface, as they need light to germinate and keep the soil consistently moist for about 10–14 days. To start indoors, sow several seeds in individual peat pots with moist soil and indirect sunlight. These plants prefer consistent moisture, tolerate very moist soil that drains well, and may drop foliage in drought; they adapt to clay soil and to shallow or rocky areas. Deadhead spent blossoms to prolong blooming, and be aware that it can spread by suckers; remove suckers to prevent overgrowth. In winter or early spring dormancy, cut back to 8–10 inches. For harvest, cut long stems of flowers that have just opened and place them in water immediately, stripping leaves that will fall below the water; these stems dry nicely when hung upside down in a warm, dark, ventilated place until dry.
