Bibb Lettice (Lactuca sativa 'Bibb'), also referred to as Limestone lettuce, delivers tender, butterhead leaves and loose, compact heads with a delicate flavor. This versatile leafy green adds a refreshing crunch to salads and sandwiches.
Grow Bibb Lettuce in well-drained, fertile soil and keep it consistently moist. It prefers partial shade to full sun and benefits from some shade during warmer months to help prevent bolting; it is heat-tolerant for spring and fall plantings. Plants reach about 8 to 10 inches tall, forming compact heads, and mature quickly for a continuous harvest. Sow seeds shallowly with 6 to 12 inches between plants, and harvest leaves as needed or cut the entire head at the base.
