Jocote fruit grows on deciduous trees in warm tropical climates. It develops after small red flowers before leaves appear, and ripens from green to purple or red; some varieties turn yellow. The thin, waxy skin is edible, and the yellow, sweet pulp surrounds a large inedible pit. The flavor is plum-like with mild acidity.
Native to regions from southern Mexico to northern Peru and north-coastal Brazil, Jocote trees are common in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Panama, and also grow in the West Indies and Bahamas. Spanish explorers introduced the fruit to the Philippines. They are related to mangoes and cashew apples. The fruit is rich in vitamin C, carbohydrates, and minerals, plus antioxidants.

My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping.
