Podisus maculiventris, the spined soldier bug, is a beneficial insect that preys on more than 100 pest species, with looper caterpillars among its primary targets. It helps reduce pest pressure on crops by feeding on the larvae of pests such as Mexican bean beetle, European corn borer, diamondback moth, corn earworm, beet armyworm, fall armyworm, cabbage looper, imported cabbageworm, Colorado potato beetle, velvet bean caterpillar, and flea beetles.
Application rates vary by pressure: 1–2 predators per square foot for preventative releases; for moderate infestations, distribute eggs evenly over leaves near the pest problem; for heavy infestations, double the predators per square foot. Release in the evening or early morning rather than the sunny part of the day; eggs hatch shortly after release and nymphs move quickly. Adults are highly mobile and will spread throughout the release area by walking and flying.

The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping.
