Double Standard Corn is a fast-growing, early-maturing open-pollinated variety that yields bi-color ears with tender, sweet kernels. Each ear reaches about 7–8 inches long with a mix of creamy yellow and white kernels, ideal for fresh eating, grilling, or boiling. The plants grow to about 6 feet tall and produce multiple ears per stalk, thriving in full sun and well-draining soil.
This heirloom corn germinates well, even in cooler soils, and is suitable for small gardens or urban spaces. It matures in roughly 70–75 days and is best grown in blocks rather than rows to improve germination. It is a heavy feeder, requiring high amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, and prefers loose soil with ample compost. After thinning, space about 8 inches apart. My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping.
