Cosmic Purple Carrot Seeds are an eye-catching, organic variety with deep purple skin and bright orange flesh. The smooth, tapered roots reach about 7 inches and offer a spicy-sweet flavor with a crisp bite. Ideal for fresh eating, roasting, or adding to salads, these carrots bring vivid color to any plate. They’re easy to grow, productive, and suitable for garden beds or containers, making them a versatile choice for gardeners of all levels. Purple carrots contain anthocyanin, an antioxidant pigment noted by the USDA.
Growing tips: plant direct 2 weeks before the last frost in three-week successions, in light, deeply tilled soil with added organic matter and some sand to promote straight growth. They prefer full sun, good drainage, and a pH of 6.0–6.6 with regular water. Germination takes 10–21 days; thin to 3 inches after emergence. Days to maturity are 60–70 days, and plants reach about 12 inches tall. After harvest, trim foliage to extend storage; do not wash, and store in a cool, humid space or keep roots in the ground under straw. Approx 500 seeds per pack; developed by Dr. Philip Simon and USDA ARS in 2005.
