Chaya, also known as Mexican Tree Spinach, is a fast-growing perennial shrub native to Mexico and Central America. It is grown for its highly nutritious leaves, which are cooked and eaten like spinach. The plant is drought-tolerant and easy to grow, thriving in a variety of climates, making it a practical addition to home gardens.
Its large, dark green palmate leaves are rich in vitamins A, C, and B, calcium, iron, and protein. The leaves contain cyanogenic glycosides, but cooking or blanching for 10–15 minutes neutralizes the toxins, rendering them safe to eat. The shrub can reach 6–10 feet tall with a bushy, tree-like habit and produces small white flowers that attract pollinators. My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping. So glad she arrived looking as beautiful as i was hoping. Also had a surprise red arrow syngonium cutting that’s beautiful. Also customer service was amazing. Will definitely order from them again.
