The Ceylon Gooseberry Tree (Dovyalis hebecarpa), also known as Ketembilla, is a small tropical fruit tree native to Sri Lanka and Southern India. It grows as a bushy shrub or small tree reaching about 6–15 feet tall, with glossy dark green foliage and a spreading habit. The plant bears small, tart purple fruits that are often used in jams, jellies, juices, and desserts.
Originally brought to the United States by Dr. David Fairchild, Ceylon Gooseberry has naturalized in Hawaii, Florida, Puerto Rico, Israel, and parts of Central America and South Africa. The tree offers ornamental value with its glossy leaves and bushy form, and it can be used as a decorative hedge or fruiting shrub. Its small, deep purple fruits are tart when fresh but prized for preserves and beverages, and they are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. Traditionally, the fruit has been used to support digestive health and overall wellbeing.

My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping. So glad she arrived looking as beautiful as i was hoping. Also had a surprise red arrow syngonium cutting that’s beautiful. Also customer service was amazing. Will definitely order from them again.
