Calabrese Broccoli is a classic heirloom variety from Italy, known for its large, deep green heads and tender, flavorful florets. It grows on sturdy plants that produce a main central head, followed by numerous side shoots for an extended harvest. This variety thrives in full sun with rich, well-draining soil and matures in 60–85 days, performing well in both spring and fall gardens. Its mild, slightly nutty florets are well-suited to steaming, roasting, or adding to soups and casseroles.
Cold-tolerant and reliable in cooler climates, Calabrese Broccoli bears until frost, producing several side shoots after the central head is harvested for a continuous supply through the season. My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping.
