Native to Central and South America with cultivation dating back to 1000 BC, it was introduced to the Caribbean by the Taíno people and became a cornerstone of Cuban cuisine and culture. It is also called the Cuban sweet potato plant, batata, or camote plant.

My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping.
