From northern Mexico, the Mexicola Avocado Tree is a cold-hardy heirloom variety celebrated for its edible, paper-thin black skin and creamy, nutty flesh with high oil content. The skin can be eaten with the fruit, offering a unique, no-peeling experience. The tree is compact and highly productive, making it ideal for smaller yards or containers. It suits Zones 8b–10 and delivers reliable fruit even in cooler subtropical climates, with hardiness down to about 20°F when mature.
Plant Mexicola Avocado in full sun and well-drained soil. It prefers deep sandy-loam but adapts to many conditions if drainage is good. Water regularly while establishing, then moderately once mature. Mulch to protect shallow roots and conserve moisture. Fertilize during the growing season with a balanced citrus/avocado fertilizer. Mexicola is a Type A flowering avocado, though it benefits from cross-pollination with a Type B variety (like Brogdon) for heavier yields.

Good solution. The little flies have disappeared. We were sure to mist/moisten the surface of each plant once a day for 4 or 5 days, after the initial application of the nematodes, to keep the little guys mobile and able to get to any remaining eggs. So, go for it!

My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping. So glad she arrived looking as beautiful as i was hoping. Also had a surprise red arrow syngonium cutting that’s beautiful. Also customer service was amazing. Will definitely order from them again.
