La cataire japonaise est une belle herbe médicinale fleurie originaire d'Asie de l'Est, où elle est utilisée depuis des siècles dans la médecine traditionnelle comme remède aromatique contre le rhume. La cataire japonaise est également appelée Jing Jie ou Schizonepeta, et fait partie de la famille des plantes Lamiaceae, apparentée à la menthe et à l'origan. Elle fait partie de la même famille que d'autres variétés de cataire, mais n'est pas une "vraie" cataire qui attire les chats. La cataire japonaise est une herbe buissonnante à croissance rapide qui produit de magnifiques épis floraux violets très parfumés à la fin de l'été.
En médecine traditionnelle, les parties aériennes de la cataire japonaise seraient également utilisées pour traiter l'inflammation due à la dermatite et à l'eczéma. Ses bourgeons verts peuvent être utilisés comme sédatif pédiatrique. Le plus souvent, l'herbe est séchée au soleil et débarrassée de ses impuretés avant d'être ingérée. Le goût est piquant. L'histoire de cette herbe utile remonte à 1550 après J.-C. et est souvent désignée sous le nom de Jing Jie Sui lorsqu'elle est cultivée exclusivement pour ses épis floraux.

My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping.
