Black Asper Bamboo, also known as Timor Black Bamboo, is a rare, highly ornamental clumping bamboo valued for its deep purple-black culms and tender, edible shoots. Native to Timor, Indonesia, it grows to 50–70 feet tall with upright canes that darken to rich black with age and sun exposure. Its young shoots are edible and ideal for stir-fries, curries, and traditional dishes. Compared with Giant Asper ( Bambusa asper), its shoots are smaller and firmer, with a mild flavor and crisp texture.
As a non-invasive, clumping bamboo, Black Asper thrives in tropical and subtropical food forests and offers beauty and function. It makes a bold specimen planting, natural privacy screen, or living hedge, providing fast-growing structure, shade, and erosion control. It prefers warm climates and grows best in USDA Zones 9–11. Good solution. The little flies have disappeared. We were sure to mist/moisten the surface of each plant once a day for 4 or 5 days, after the initial application of the nematodes, to keep the little guys mobile and able to get to any remaining eggs. So, go for it!

My new babay arrived safely and only lost two little leaves so far. The first one I ordered from different shop arrived with two leaves attached that fell off within ten minutes of unboxing and 22 leaves that had came off during shipping. So glad she arrived looking as beautiful as i was hoping. Also had a surprise red arrow syngonium cutting that’s beautiful. Also customer service was amazing. Will definitely order from them again.
