Central Florida Spring Garden Readiness
Take the time to start your spring 2026 garden by adding organic soil & fertilizer.
- Top off your garden soil to fill your garden beds & planters. This is especially effective in helping buffer garden temperature when the weather gets hotter. It also helps add volume of soil that hold more water, so you can water less frequently.
- Once you add the soil, mix organic fertilizer into the top 8 to 10 inches. Organic fertilizers are not water soluble, so they remain available for plants no matter how much it rains or how often you water. It does not leach.
Recommended Fertilizers for Re-planting Existing Gardens:
Before planting greens, it is recommended to add blood meal organic fertilizer mixed under the plants or mixed into the entire plant row for heavy feeding plants. For fruiting plants, it is recommended to add 25%-50% the rate of blood meal and 60%-100% the rate of fish bone meal mixed under the plant or mixed into the entire plant row for heavy feeding (large productive) plants. If you've added more than 8 inches of soil, it is beneficial to also include some cottonseed meal fertilizer.
