Beware: African Snails in New Port Richey

Giant African Land Snails are an invasive species damaging to gardens and households. A quarantine is in place for part of New Port Richey, Fl. It is unlawful to transport the snail, plants, plant part, yard waste, compost or building materials in, through or to the quarantine area without a special exemption.
Beware gardeners and landscapers. Giant African Land Snails can lay up to 2,500 eggs per year. They generally lay eggs in shallow soil near or on logs. Let's do our part to eradicate the invasion.
The quarantine area starts at the northwest corner of U.S. Highway 19 and Ridge Road. Proceed east on Ridge Road, south on Little Road, west on Trouble Creek Road and north on U.S. Highway 19.
